Interrail: Verona

Verona was the last place we visited on our interrail. I actually added the place on our list, without knowing basically anything about the city. Expect that Romeo and Juliet was based on that city (it was so amazing to see places I had been in, when I watched the movie later on). If we would have known more about the city, we would have known also that arriving about 1 week before would have been even more amazing, since the opera festival was taking place in the city.

Or maybe it was ideal to arrive just after, since we got amazing accommondation from the place called Juliette House. It was the only place we stayed at that called itself B&B. And the staff (the owner) was amazingly helpful and sweet guy. He spoke very good English (rare in Italy) and told us all the best places to visit and see. Us and another couple were the only one's staying in there for the first night which meant we had the whole floor to ourself. Luxury. Best thing about the B&B was the location. It was very close to the city centre and all the attractions. Everything in Verona is named Romeo or Giulietta.

At this point of our trip we were pretty maxed out and tired. Since it was sort of off-season already, Verona was very laid back and not too busy and crowded. When you are a Finnish person and tired, the last thing you want is to get stuck in crowds. Like Rome, also Verona's biggest attraction was the amphitheather. In my opinion the theather in Verona was even nicer than the one in Rome. And so much less crowded! Hallelujah!

Ihanaa!

We also walked by the Castelvecchio and Ponte Scaligero, which you can see in the Romeo and Juliet movie (2013)! They were pretty much what you would expect from Medieval buildings.

From Ponte Scaligero I recommed heading towards the hill off Castel San Pietro, where the views were amazing! The amount of orange was unexpected as you don't see the roofs when you walk in the alleys.

I was really looking forward to seeing the Piazza delle Erbe, which traditionally has been the place to buy herbs. However, nowadays it was mostly just tourist junk and Chinese tourists, so I was a bit disappointed. Of course we also visited Casa Di Giulietta, but the place was so packed with tourists and the Giulietta statue just only shiny from her right boob, so there was not much to see. Shopping street leading up to the little courtyard was really nice, and I really wish we could have similar here in Turku.

Medieval feeling certainly was everywhere in the city. In our accommondation we were told that you could find museum kind of feeling even in Benetton -shop! Old Medieval mosaic and ruins there between winter coats and blouses!

Keskiaikaisuus seurasi kyllä meitä läpi kaupungin. Majoituksessa meille osattiin muun muassa kertoa että Benettonin alakerrassa olisi museofiilistä. Vanhoja keskiaikaisia mosaiikkilattioita ja raunioita toppatakkien ja kauluspaitojen välissä!

After Verona we headed towards Milano, before going to Bergamo airport. Everything didn't quite go as we expected, as our passports got stolen at McDonalds (yes, a sin I did while traveling).
Simple advice to anyone with stolen passports far away from the Embassy:
- panic
- call mom in panic and ask for advice
- call the embassy as mom tells you
- tell the embassy the problem and hear that ID is okay, but drivers licence could be trouble in some airlines
- go to the police station
- try to explain everything to a police who speaks "no-English"
- write completely useless police report
- listen how the police laughts at our attempt to get to the plane tomorrow morning
- shop because your pissed
- come to the airport way too late to get service
- get nervous for about 8 hour as you don't know anything
- be at the check-in at 6 am
- watch how the service lady writes "documents OK" and move to the security check
- get home without trouble
- realise 3 weeks afterwards that you should have filled our a police report also at home

- etsi poliisiasema (itse menimme takaisin rautatieasemalle)

Amsterdam, Italy and Stockholm shopping

It has been a while since I have done anything related to shopping. It happens that I don't really shop that much and introducing one or two things at the time just seems silly. And that is how I shop. However, while going  through my traveling memories, I realized I have shoped quite a lot during my traveling lately. Not did I only risk my back by shopping while railing, I also found some awesome and cute things from Stockholm two weeks back (yes, I did see Lady Gaga too). I found some new real loves and visited some old dears I can't find in Finland.

(and sorry about the thinness of my assistant, it has been shitty weather outside and could not bother to wear all of these clothes by myself)

Dress from H&M, photoshoot prop / Mekko kuvausrekvisiittaa H&M:ltä

I have been looking for a nice statement necklace, that would not be too rough for my otherwise girly style, but at the same time would not be all flowers and hearts or pink and white. Thought that this one had the edge and the girliness I was looking for.

Shirt from Pimkie, Paris, 20€ / Paita, Pimkie, Pariisi, 20€
Skirt from boohoo.com, 12€ (old) / Hame, boohoo.com, 12€

Pimkie was a new acquaintance for me, but seemed to have the kind of stuff I would wear a lot. And so I have. This shirt can be turned into a girls night out at nightclub as well for just hanging around.

Pimkie oli mulle ihan uus tuttavuus, mutta osottautu kaupaks, josta löysin juttuja joita voin käyttää paljon. Ja niin oonkin. Tää paita meinaa taipuu niin tyttöjen iltaan yöklubilla ku vaan yleiseen hengailuun kavereitten kanssa.

Blouse from Pull&Bear, Amsterdam, 13€ / Pusero, Pull&Bear, Amsterdam 13€

Pull&Bear seems to always have something that catches my eyes, and this time I finally got the money to buy something! Plus I love the fireplace theme they have in the stores.

Shirts from Subdued, Florence, 26€ and 16€ / Paidat, Subdued, Firenze, 26€ ja 16€

Another new definite love, Subdued. Oh how much I wished I could have bought... And how much I wish their online store would not charge 15 euros for shipping to Finland.

Toinen uus rakkaus, Subdued.

Skirt from Weekday, Stockholm 56€ / Hame, Weekday, Tukholma, 56€
Shirt and necklace, photoshoot props / Paita ja koru kuvausrekvisiittaa

Weekday proved me wrong. For long time I have been sure that their stores have nothing for me. Until I found this perfection of a skirt. It has everything I would ever wish for a skirt; amazing lenght (just above knee), perfect color to go with everything in my closet, thick quality material and POCKETS.

Pullover from Beyond Retro, Stockholm 37€ / Villapaita, Beyond Retro, Tukhoma 37€

By complete accident, me and Jonathan found a place called Beyond Retro in Stockholm and decided to check it out even though the shop window seemed a bit creepy (Halloween stuff). I'm so glad we did, because behing the door we found the most amazing collection of vintage, retro and second-hand stuff. Incredible place, could have send hours in there! Definitely visit this place if you ever find yourself in Stockholm. It is unlike any other second-hand store. You can find it at Drottninggatan, Stockholm as well as in London and Brighton.

Tukholmassa täysin vahingossa me löydettiin paikka nimeltä Beyond Retro ja päätettiin tsekata paikka, vaikka näyteikkuna olikin vähän karmiva (Halloween juttuja).

Bag from Aldo, Milan, 55€ / Laukku, Aldo, Milano, 55€

I was in desperate need of updating my purse and very fixed on the color grey. When I saw this beauty (and the lining of it) I was sold. And the bag was sold to me. Had to make a very unfortunate detour to Milan just to get this bag. More about Milan and why it became my city of misfortune later on after Paris and Bern posts!

So, what do you think? Was it worth it to carry all these things around Europe? Have you made amazing finds abroad?

No, mitäs aattelette? Oliko Euroopan läpi kanniskelun arvosta kamaa? Ootteko ite tehny hyviä löytöjä ulkomailta viimeaikoina?
